Jaime Meekins
A nationally recognized Community Violence Intervention (CVI) leader, public safety advocate, and public safety consultant committed to addressing gun violence as a public health crisis. After the tragic loss of his 14-year-old son, Mu’awiyyah Jalil Meekins, to gun violence in 2018, Jaime transformed his grief into purpose, dedicating his life to serving high-risk individuals and strengthening community-based safety strategies across Philadelphia. He was appointed to serve on Philadelphia’s Special Committee on Gun Violence and has also been selected to the City’s Citizen Police Oversight Commission, helping shape policy, accountability, and community trust. In recognition of his leadership and impact in the public safety space, the Philadelphia City Council presented him with a formal resolution honoring his organization’s work. In 2025, as Philadelphia reached historic lows in gun violence, Jaime remained at the forefront of collaborative efforts contributing to this historic progress. A graduate of the University of Chicago Crime Lab’s Community Violence Intervention Leadership Academy (CVILA), Jaime is also an alumnus of Leadership Philadelphia’s Class of 2025, where he was selected among some of the city’s top cross-sector leaders committed to strengthening Philadelphia’s future. He remains dedicated to professionalizing the CVI field and building safer, more resilient communities.
